this boy, my boy, I see him as a little boy, does not want to be called a boy but a man.......~~that's not going to happen not for another 10 year, or so on my watch anyways~~.... what to call him, well Lane, Lane is at an age where one minute he too cool to say the word "cool" and the next snuggling up to his beloved kitty Reno.....

this boy, well he still is ok with being called a boy, that is as long as his friends are not present. the weather has been so nasty here that I taught both boys to knit in less than an hour! it did take some convincing and a history lesson about children having to knit their own socks ~~(not just girls)~~ before the invention of thee loom.

Today I received a phone call from Kaid's teacher. Apparently, Kaid forgot his swimming trunks on his bus before school this morning and was upset because he was going miss out on third grade splash class. Kaid "found" a pair of trunks just his size in the lost and found....and wore them for swimming. I don't know if I should be proud because he found a solution or embarrassed.

When I asked him what he used to dry off and he said he used two hand towels he found in the locker room. I am going with PROUD!

Mom~To me you represent the strength, grace and kindness a woman should be.

Strength~When I was about Kaid's age, Dad was driving your green pick-up, on Court Street when he suddenly made a quick turn and stopped the truck.   He simply said "Look up."   To this day my heart is filled with pride thinking back to that day, when I watched you on top of a telephone pole, tethered with a flimsy little belt and big spikes on your boots, gracefully directing telephone lines.

Grace~To this day, my ears ring with: "Walk like a lady, Act like a lady and you'll be treated like a lady."

Kindness~Random acts of kindness.   You may not call it that, but I have witnessed you give on to others, because they were in need.

Mom, you have been and continue to be a Conductor of my life.   As a child you communicated artistic direction in my life.   Thank you for teaching me that a woman may be as strong as any Man, do anything she puts her mind to while stilling maintaining the beauty of being a woman.

When another year had passed with out any traces of mouse pee!

At last, one Christmas to our surprize,

When our mother unwrapped the foam from Zelma's home,

to only find one little beedy eyed,

mouse had dined

on the pink icing and sugar cubes.

Over the years we have tried to re-create the delicate pink one story
home which dazzled our little eyes with such glory.

We had all but given up,
until this year when my mother showed up.

She came bearing all of the tools needed,

to finish a sugar cube home just in time for the season!

It's a little uneven,

but hopefully it will spark a little twinkle,

and keep my boys a believing'

Four Legged Smoke Detector

Every night our family has basically the same routine. The boys' go to bed, David, Star, Petey and I head up stairs to our beds shortly after. Star has the "run" of the house and Petey has graduated from total lock down (in his crate) to sleeping in his crate with the door open.

On this particular night I had just fallen asleep when I was awoken to Petey's face pressed on my side of the mattress whimpering. Honestly, I tried my best to ignore him, but he would not stop whining. So I got up thinking that he really must have to "go." Petey immediately went to Kaid's room instead of making his way to the stairs. Whining and spinning in a circles around my feet, Petey and I walked into Kaid's room. The smell of the heavy Pendleton Wool blanket "cooking" on top of Kaid's desk lamp was enough snap me out of my slumber. Needless to say, Kaid does not have a desk lamp in his room.

As for the black and white little dog who answers to Petey, Pete, Pee Wee, Peter Pan the dog who just wanted to be a boy and Peter Rabbit has made me even more thankful to have him in our lives.

You know its a bad day when......................

The smell almost knocks you over, before you open the door.

The door doesn't open as easy as it usually does.

The big white smelly dog is hiding in the corner.

The piles of dog crap are strategically placed from the back door, (the back door smeared the piles as I opened it) through the kitchen, evenly dispersed in the living room and finally a blob next to David's side of the bed.

To quote Charlie Brown "AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!"

Hind sight being 20/20 I should have took a deep breath, wait scratch that, walked outside and came up with a game plan to tackle the dog crap, but oh no, not me, realizing that Lane would be home in a few minutes I jumped right in to Mission "Spread Dog Sh** All Over the Kitchen." First, tackle the crap by the back door, which has been spread all over the entryway carpet, and the draft doo hickey. Again that hindsight thing, I should have thought about how I was going to keep the carpet rolled up before I rolled it up, but not so much, so I rolled up the carpet, and realized my mistake, only to find out that I had just smeared more dog crap all over the kitchen floor (by the untimely unrolling of the carpet). I managed to get cut a piece of jute to tie the mess up. This next part only happens in the movies. So I pick up the rug, trying to avoid covering my clothes with dog diarrhea, and wouldn't you know it, my rolled up carpet dropped dog crap all over the floor, evenly splattering any remaining clean kitchen tiles.

Needless to say, Lane walked in just as I was elbows deep in clean up, and he eagerly agreed to play outside until the smell passed.

Shabby Chic or Junk

We acquired a table and four antique (they are dated 10/08/1938 on the bottom) chairs from Freecycle.
Freecycle=A group to get rid of your stuff a.k.a. junk you don't want but can't find cause to throw it in a landfill. You post and ad about your stuff. So instead of loading it up and hauling it to the dump, people will come and take it off your hands! Thus our new dinning room set.
You decide junk or chic antique looking dinning set!

Happy 40th Birthday James.
I wish I could be there to help celebrate your 40th birthday.
When I think you I am reminded of:

Your love of music, which taught me that there is always time of music. How much your sweatshirts and t-shirts always seemed like they would look better on me. How you taught me to fish, and kept taking me with you even when you just wanted to hang out with your friends. How you encourage me to go deer hunting with you, and kept asking me to go even when I had a chronic case of Buck Fever. How when we were growing up you always tried to make sure you had time for Mel and I. How you showed me that it is possible to switch drivers on US395 driving 70 mph if you want to. Helping maintain the Maxwell Family Phone Tree. For being the family medical hot line. For showing the world what a true Coug fan should be. How effortlessly you write. Your natural cooking abilities minus the deer tacos. How to play the ceiling fan sock game. For trying to rescue Mel and I when we got the old green pick-up so stuck, it took a pick-up and a tractor to get it out. For talking to Dad that same day so he wouldn't kill us. For being Uncle Jimmie to my boys. Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day.

We began our Boston or Bastin trip with a walk down the "Freedom Trail," where we boarded the oldest commissioned US Navy ship. The boys really enjoyed visiting the USS Constitution better know as "Old Ironsides."

Blisters and heat prompted this impromptu stop on the "Freedom Trail."

This is Lane's latest Lego project.
"Republic Attack Gunship"
When Lane was asked about the size (pieces) of this Lego he said, "It's about one thousand pieces or so." Actually 1,034 tiny Lego pieces and he built it all by himself.
(David and I helped find a couple of pieces)
"Beat that, Uncle Kracker!"
